Johan Ferreira

Managing Director Khoemacau & Head of Africa Operations

Johan Ferreira has 32 years experience in the mining industry. Over and above his rigorous operational experience, he has a proven track record in mine design, project management and the commissioning of mining projects.

Johan started his mining career in 1986 with Anglo American as a Learner Official and progressed to the level of Senior Vice President Operations - South African Region for what became AngloGold Ashanti. Prior to joining Khoemacau, Johan was the Regional Senior Vice President - Africa Region for Newmont based in Ghana. During his four years of service with Newmont, he had many successes. Apart from dealing with complex internal and external stakeholder relationships, infrastructure challenges, and new project development, Ghana was one of Newmont’s top performing operating divisions under Johan’s leadership.

Johan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) degree from the University of Pretoria and is a qualified and certified Professional Engineer.

As Managing Director of Khoemacau and the Head of African Operations, Johan will serve on the boards of Khoemacau Copper Mining Ltd and Discovery Copper Ltd


Kgosiemang K. Molosiwa

Kgosiemang K. Molosiwa

Director (Khoemacau Copper Mining and Discovery Copper Botswana)

Kgosiemang Molosiwa is a successful businessman who has founded, directed and managed a number of major Botswana companies in the mining, manufacturing and agricultural sectors starting in 1977. Mr. Molosiwa has extensive knowledge of government permitting and regulatory issues in the region. In 2002 he founded Wati Ventures (Pty) Ltd which partnered with Debeers Prospecting to form Debwat (Pty) Ltd. This joint venture was responsible for the proposed AK6 mine in Letlhakane, currently known as Boteti Mine, which was later sold to Lucara Mines. In 2005 he co-founded Dezzo Roofing which manufactured Aluzinc, a lightweight roofing system. He is an Executive Council Member and co-chairperson of the manufacturing sector for Business Botswana and was a board member of Botswana National Licensing before it was decentralized in April 2008.

Mr. Molosiwa’s association with Khoemacau Copper Mining began in 2007 when he was appointed as a director of Hana Mining Limited, which was acquired by Cupric Canyon Capital in 2013.


Dale Quaker

Dale Quaker

Head of Finance

Mr. Quaker has experience in coal mining, chrome smelting, transportation logistics and construction environments. Prior to joining Cupric Africa, he operated as a consultant to the mining industry on mining, logistics and finance. In his last corporate role, he held the position of Group Manager for Marketing and Logistics for Xstrata Coal – South Africa. Prior to that position, Mr. Quaker was the Corporate Financial Manager for Xstrata Coal where he gained extensive experience in managing and controlling the management reporting function, tax matters as well as IT and information systems.

Mr. Quaker has a passion for people development within his function and has made great progress in establishing systems and controls within the discipline. As Head of Finance for Cupric Africa, he is responsible for ensuring the financial health and policy compliance of the organisation.

He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is registered with the Chartered Institute of Management.


Rob Dey

Rob Dey

Project Director

Rob Dey is a South African project engineer with almost 35 years’ experience in the development of mining projects in Africa, including 20 years at Impala Platinum Holdings (Implats). As Executive – Projects for Implats, Mr. Dey was responsible for managing projects ranging from the conceptual, feasibility, and implementation stages through to production. These projects included six greenfield projects in South Africa and Zimbabwe, as well as brownfield expansions to the concentrator, smelter and refining operations within the Group.

As Project Director for Cupric Africa, Mr. Dey is responsible for ensuring that the project is implemented safely and in accordance with the approved scope, budget and schedule.

Mr. Dey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Natal and is a member of the Engineering Council of South Africa.


Clare Calver

Clare Calver

Head of Human Resources and Communications

Clare Calver has 17 years’ experience in the HR discipline. Her experience has been gained through her tenure with significant global mining houses. She spent close to 10 years at AngloGold Ashanti where she rose from Management Trainee to being the Human Resources Manager of the company’s Corporate Office. She has also worked for Barrick Africa as the Regional Manager- Talent and Organizational Development for two years before she became an independent HR consultant. She managed her HR consultancy for close to 5 years before joining Cupric Africa as Head of Human Resources and Communications. Her consultancy clients have included BHP Billiton, the Mineral Corporation, Shanta Gold, Uranium One and Keagan Resources.

As Head of Human Resources and Communications for Cupric Africa, she is responsible for establishing frameworks and systems that ensure the optimal output of its human resources.

Ms. Calver has a Bachelor of Social Science degree from the University of Natal, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Wits Business School, and Advanced Diplomas in Labour Law from the University of Johannesburg and the Management Development Programme from the University of Cape Town.


Johannes Tsimako

Johannes Tsimako

Regional Manager Khoemacau

Johannes Tsimako was the Chief Geologist at the Botswana Department of Geological Survey (“DGS”) for over five years where he was part of a team that developed and managed the National Integrated Geo-Information System. He also administered and managed the prospecting license division at the DGS. Prior his time with the DGS, Mr. Tsimako held various senior positions with the Botswana Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, including the Department of Energy, Mineral Affairs on Coal Development Strategies and Mineral Affairs on Mineral Promotion and Policy Formulation. Mr. Tsimako also worked for Rio Tinto as an exploration geologist managing the diamond exploration and base metal programmes in various parts of Botswana.

Mr. Tsimako holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology degree from the University of Botswana and a Master of Science degree in Mineral Exploration from ITC, Delft, the Netherlands. He is a member of the Botswana Geoscientist Association.


Mompati Babusi

Acting Operations Manager (Zone 5)

Mompati Babusi is a metallurgist with 13 years of base metal concentrator plant operational and management experience. After graduating from university, Mompati joined Tati Nickel Mining Company during the plant construction phase. In 2002, he was involved in the commissioning of the 3.6 million tonne per annum concentrator plant (3 stage crushing, milling, flotation, concentrate regrind, dewatering, tailing disposal and concentrate filtration). In 2005, he was involved in the upgrade of the Tati Nickel concentrator plant to 5 million tonnes per annum. He has worked in most process positions and was Manager Ore Processing at Tati Nickel until December 2013.

Mr. Babusi is responsible for the metallurgical activities for the Khoemacau Project and is currently acting as Operations Manager – Zone 5.

Mr. Babusi holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree from the University of Queensland in Australia.
